About Me.
Hello! My name is Ajah Newsome, I am a graduate from the University of Victoria with a degree in Political Science, a minor in Professional Communications and a passion for creative writing and film photography.

I grew up in a small BC town. I spent my youth enjoying the beautiful mountains and lakes surrounding the Pemberton Valley. I was introduced to the world of journalism through pursuing my passion for creative writing, specifically poetry. I realized there was more to my work, where I believe I can turn my passion for creative writing and enthusiasm for knowledge of how the world works, into a career.
I speak both English and French fluently, having graduated high school with a Double Dogwood Diploma. From there I participated in an international exchange during my university career because I was enthusiastic about growing and learning in another part of the world. This is also when I started taking film photos.

My interest in politics and global affairs, specifically within the international relations realm, led me to declare my minor in Professional Communications where I began meeting my more hands on career and partnership goals.

I hope to continue growing and learning within the realm of journalism, communications and creative writing, by expanding my horizons and making connections.
I am very open to new opportunities and to working with other professionals in these fields. Please feel free to DM me via Instagram or send me an email through my website. I look forward to hearing from you!

Education
2016-2020
Pemberton Secondary School
This is where my passion for creative writing and poetry began. I started writing free form poetry when I was sixteen and never looked back. I went on to have some of my poems published in a magazine through the University of Victoria and have been working on compiling a book in the meantime.
2020-2025
University of Victoria
I applied to five post secondary schools all across Canada and the US and was accepted into all of them, but something drew me to the coast of British Columbia and I have never once regretted it. The island, not just Victoria is where I call home now and I am honoured to call myself a graduate from one of Canada's most prestigious universities.
February 2023-June 2023
University of Utrecht, Netherlands
When I was in my third year of my university career I participated in an international exchange through UVic. During this time I moved abroad to the Netherlands to study for a semester. I chose to participate in this exchange primarily due to my interest in politics through my major. I was curious to see how crucial systems worked in another part of the world. I credit a large part of my independent and educational growth due to this choice.
